My father started his own business 40 years ago, so I grew up in the world of retailing. Every day he would walk the aisles to check on what was selling, what might need better positioning and what could be done better. And I remember he was always talking to his customers, getting their feedback. Did they find what they were looking for? Was there something they wanted to see stocked that wasn’t? Did they feel they were getting good value for their money? He was always looking for ways he could make things in his store better for his customers. I’ve kind of followed in his steps – I have my own business, but it operates over the Internet. And since my business is virtual I have to rely on different things to make it work. Like online retailing business trends that provide great information I can use. For example – more than 80 percent of everything bought online is paid for using a credit card. That tells me without a doubt that I need to make sure that I offer my customers merchant services. They want me to accept credit cards.
