The last time I saw a gong, it was in my high school music room, and everyone loved to “play” it when the teacher left the room. But recently, I started dating a drummer, and he has an authentic Chinese gong in his gear room! It’s quite magnificent – it’s made out of polished bronze, and at 35 inches in diameter, it’s almost as big as they come. He hit the chinese gong a couple times (the room was soundproofed), and it had a perfect, clear tone. The gong was a gift from a friend, another musician, who had actually traveled to China to study music. If you haven’t heard a Chinese gong up close and personal, I recommend it!
